Metro is pleased to welcome a pairing of alternative luminaries on Tuesday, October 24: doom folk zenith Chelsea Wolfe and industrial duo Youth Code. The show will mark Wolfe’s first-ever performance at Metro, who has announced her forthcoming fifth studio album Hiss Spun (Sargent House).
Hiss Spun was recorded by Converge’s Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts, at the tail end of 2017, wringing its exquisiteness out of an armory of groaning bass, pounding drums, and crunching distortion. Aside from adding low-end heft with slabs of fuzz bass, longtime collaborator Ben Chisholm contributed sound collages from sources surrounding Wolfe and her band in recent years—the rumble of street construction at a tour buy generic nolvadex no prescription stop in Prague, the howl of a coyote outside Wolfe’s home, the scrape of machinery on the floor of a warehouse at a down-and-out friend’s workplace. The highly anticipated album will be released to the world on September 22, 2017.
Born and bred in the California folk scene, Chelsea Wolfe has imparted her own gothic spin on the genre, from haunting bare-bone acoustic tracks (The Grime and the Glow, Unknown Rooms) to throbbing electronic exorcisms (Pain Is Beauty, Abyss). Covering artists including controversial black metal bastion Burzum and rock legends Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Wolfe’s musical inspirations are as manifold as her own sonic palette.
